The New PIP law survives another day! Talking about mandatory BI falls on deaf ears.
Senator David Simmons (R Maitland) tried to conduct a vote to repeal PIP and replace it with mandatory BI instead. He was met with “akward silence” and Senator Joe Negron (R Stuart) said he was “busy working on the budget.”

For those who don’t know Senator David Simmons, he is the same guy who tries to repeal PIP every year. He is also from Maitland where Geico and other insurers are headquartered. It’s obvious who funds his campaign every year.
Senator Joe Negron is the same guy who “saved” PIP last year when the House Republicans wanted to only make PIP available to hospitals.
Senator David Simmons said he will bring the issue up next week but it is unlikely anything will get passed this legislative session. Governor Rick Scott who pushed the new PIP law last session said that he will give the new law some time to work out before considering repealing PIP. See the article here.
For those who don’t know, the Florida Legislature only meets for 60 days a year and we are already past the half-way point. So based on today’s story it looks like PIP is here for another session.
